Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) recently introduced S. 597 which would add neurology to the list of physicians eligible for the primary care incentive in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The Neuropathy Association has been working with the American Academy of Neurology and other organizations on this top priority advocacy issue since neurology’s omission from the health care reform bill. We need your participation to assure that you and all neuropathy patients—as well as patients with other neurological diseases—have continued and timely access to highly trained neurologists for the care you need, when you need it.
National Neuropathy Week is just around the corner and we are excited about engaging the community—and the public at large—in our awareness campaign to help us collectively take the conversations on neuropathy up a few notches! 2010 Neuropathy Summit in Washington, D.C. Advances Neuropathy Education for Patients and Physicians
Tina M. Tockarshewsky, President and CEO of The Neuropathy Association, opens the 2010 Neuropathy Summit in Washington, D.C.
Our groundbreaking 2010 Neuropathy Summit just held on December 3-5 in Washington D.C. offered patients and health care professionals an opportunity to come together to exchange knowledge and directly address the neuropathy epidemic currently impacting over 20 Million Americans. By giving a focus to “Probing the Paradoxes of Neuropathic Pain,” the Summit’s content addressed the issues and challenges in diagnosing and treating the many forms of peripheral neuropathy while targeting the number one issue for many patients: chronic and often debilitating neuropathic pain.
With back-to-back patient and physician conferences, the 2010 Neuropathy Summit gathered close to 400 neuropathy patients, caregivers, family members, physicians, scientists, clinical researchers, industry representatives and policy makers to discuss the state of peripheral neuropathy care and treatment today, advance our education about a multi-disciplinary approach to neuropathy and neuropathic pain, and call for greater awareness and understanding for this greatly underappreciated illness impacting so many across the U.S. and around the World.
The 2010 Neuropathy Summit provided greater education and awareness so, together, we can advance our understanding of neuropathy, create momentum for better patient treatments, and, ultimately, cures. Be sure to visit our site in coming days for more Summit news, pictures, and educational updates from this first-ever Neuropathy Summit event.
